In 1987, the film by Melanie Spitta and Katrin Seybold showed, for the first time in the history of the FRG, the persecution of German Sinti and Sintize under National Socialism told from the perspective of Sinti and Sintize. The civil rights activist and filmmaker Melanie Spitta was herself a child of survivors.
