This year marks what would have been the 80th birthday of Sohrab Shahid Saless (1944–1998), one of the most influential directors in post-war German cinema. In collaboration with Verlag der Autoren, the DFF will screen Saless’ documentary DIE LANGEN FERIEN DER LOTTE H. EISNER (FRG 1979) to celebrate the launch of Behrang Samsami’s three-volume work Die langen Ferien des Sohrab Shahid Saless. Annäherung an ein Leben und Werk.

DIE LANGEN FERIEN DER LOTTE H. EISNER ist ein filmisches Porträt der Filmkritikerin und Filmhistorikerin Lotte H. Eisner, der Autorin des epochalen Buches Die dämonische Leinwand über den deutschen Stummfilm sowie zweier Monographien über F. W. Murnau und Fritz Lang. Sohrab Shahid Saless filmt Eisner, die 1933 aus Deutschland fliehen musste, in ihrer Pariser Wohnung in langen, ruhigen Einstellungen und lässt sie aus ihrem Leben erzählen.
