The Southern Lights Festival has been showcasing films from the global South at the DFF – Deutsches Filminstitut & Filmmuseum in Frankfurt since 2020. With the new Southern Lights on Tour, the DFF is expanding the festival to include venues in Wiesbaden, Dietzenbach, Hanau, and Offenbach.
The theme of this year’s program is courage. The 15 films explore longings and dreams while also tackling issues such as racism, patriarchal power structures, colonialism, and the challenges of displacement and migration.
The festival kicked off in Frankfurt at the DFF cinema from Friday, March 15, to Tuesday, March 19, 2024. After that, it tours with selected films through Wiesbaden (April 15 and 16 at Caligari FilmBühne), Dietzenbach (April 27 and 28 at Main Kino D), Offenbach (May 4 and 5 at Hafenkino), and Hanau (May 22 and 23 at Kulturforum).
